HISTORY 

In 1982, a small group of music teachers from the Fairfax area  decided to form a new music teachers' group called Fairfax West Music Fellowship.  The group was established to provide multiple performance opportunities in our community.  Sharing music with the community allows children to foster connections, build confidence, and experience the joy of creating something together, while also enriching the lives of others and strengthening community bonds.

In 1993, after much fundraising, the group purchased a manual Franco-Flemish harpsichord for use by members and non-profit organizations for instructional purposes and performances.

In addition to providing solo performance opportunities for students, the group began sponsoring ensemble events such as a Concerto Concert, Fall Festival, and the Piano Ensemble Festival, which was a tradition for more than 30 years.   

As development in Fairfax County grew and began to expand farther west, teachers from neighboring Loudoun County joined Fairfax West Music Fellowship, and the name was changed to Music Teachers of Fairfax-Loudoun. 

As we enter into 2026-27, we have a bigger vision for our teachers and community that we serve.  We hold professional development seminars for teachers along with a supportive community for all of our educators.  With 8 performance opportunities a year, and an adjudicated Fall Festival, there are numerous opportunities for our students to impact our community in a positive way.
